Armacao dos Buzios, or just Buzios, is a resort town and a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and it's about 175 km north of Rio de Janeiro. It has 24,500 inhabitants. It was once the place for slave traders and pirates, later a fisherman village and after the discovery by Brigitte Bardot and her Brazilian partner, Bob Zagury, it a well known resort for the rich and famous. This 9 km peninsula has 24 beaches and an active nightlife. Some of those beaches are; Joao Fernandinho Beach, Brava Beach, Tartaruga Beach, Geriba Beach, Canto Beach, Armacao Beach, Ossos Beach, Rasa Beach, Azeda Beach, Manguinhos Beach, Ferradurinha Beach and Ferradura Beach. There are no buidings with more than 2 floors and strict building regulations for hotels, keeping the charm of this little village. The west coast of the peninsula facing mainland has calm, clear water and the east coast facing the ocean is surfy and windy and therefore very suited for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Other Buzios sports are; surfing, kayaking, diving, cycling, swimming, horseback riding and more.
